Bio
Yvonne Opanga is a public health researcher and educator based in Kenya. She currently serves as the Research, Learning, and Impact Technical Advisor at Amref Health Africa in Kenya and is an Adjunct Faculty member at the Amref International University, School of Public Health. With over 12 years of experience in implementation research, impact evaluations, health systems research, and bioethics, Yvonne has made significant contributions to the field of public health.
Her work has played a critical role in advancing evidence-based programming in low-resource African contexts. As a co-investigator in over 30 studies and an author of more than 20 publications in local and international peer-reviewed journals, she has been instrumental in shaping public health research. Her research findings have informed the implementation of effective primary health care models, particularly in Kenya, and have influenced public health policies and practices.
Yvonne holds a Bachelor of Science in Foods, Nutrition, and Dietetics, a Master of Science in Public Health, and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Biomedical Ethics. She is currently pursuing a Master’s in Global Bioethics at Anahuac University, Mexico.
She brings extensive expertise in landscape analysis, health systems research, community-based participatory research, mixed-methods design, implementation science, operations research, research ethics, and impact evaluation. Her research interests focus on addressing emerging trends and systemic disparities in primary healthcare, particularly in vulnerable communities across Kenya. She is passionate about generating evidence on the effectiveness, social, and economic impact of health interventions implemented in different contexts.
As the Technical Advisor for Learning and Impact at Amref Kenya, Yvonne has successfully led the implementation of Amref’s learning agenda, driving the adoption of best practices and data-driven decision-making. She has been instrumental in advancing evidence-based policy and programming through strategic collaboration with the Ministry of Health and other key stakeholders. Notably, she played a crucial role in generating evidence to support the recent deployment of Primary Health Care Networks across Kenya, aimed at improving equitable access to high-quality and affordable healthcare, particularly in underserved areas.
